Biomass energy is an environmentally friendly new energy source. It is the
energy obtained from the biomass through the photosynthetic effect of plants.
It includes wood, wood chips etc
They are considered carbon neutral
even though they may emit C02 and other green house gases during fuel consumption
because the plant souurces from which they are produced absorb C02. So on the net
they are carbon neutral. There are critics that argue that if not done right, bio energy
can harm the enviroment in the short and medium term.
n 2021, biomass provided nearly 5 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) and about 5% of
total primary energy use in the United States.
For Most african countries like Ethopia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Biomass forms a very high percentage
of total energy consumption.
