Smart Meters
Smart Meters - will replace existing meters by two way smart meters. Todays meters are read once per month.
Smart meters will capture energy consumption data more frequently (Once every 15 min and perhaps
several times a second in future) and at a granular level
(Per appliance?)
Allow remote meter reading, remote connect and disconnect
Reduce energy theft and meter tampering issues
There are about a billion meters installed worldwide. Replacing these meters
with smart meters is a huge market opportunity.
Only about 6% of US homes have smart meters.
A smart meter cost between $100 - $300 to install
